GP Technologies delivered a complete protection and control solution for a 15 kV distribution substation — from initial engineering through fabrication of a custom P&C panel, through to site commissioning. The scope integrated protective relaying, touchscreen HMI, PLC-based bus transfer automation, software-defined networking, and remote SCADA connectivity into a single turnkey package.

SymCore Systems fabricated the protection and control panel to UL 508A and CSA C22.2 No.14 standards at the Edmonton facility, with GP Technologies engineering ensuring all relay settings, PLC logic, and network architecture were fully validated prior to delivery.

What Sets It
Apart

01
15 kV Protective Relaying
Comprehensive relay protection for 15 kV breakers, including overcurrent, ground fault, and bus protection elements. All relay settings engineered and documented by GP Technologies P.Eng. staff against applicable protection standards.
02
Automatic Bus Transfer Control
PLC-based logic for both automatic and manual bus transfer, ensuring fast, reliable source switching while maintaining protection coordination. Developed and fully simulated in-house before panel delivery.
03
Touchscreen HMI Operation
Integrated touchscreen HMI provides local visibility and control of substation breakers, bus status, alarms, and metering — enabling operators to manage the substation safely without relay-level interaction.
04
Software-Defined Networking
IEC 61850-ready software-defined network switches configured for deterministic communication between protection relays, PLC, HMI, and SCADA. Network architecture engineered for cyber-security and availability.
05
Remote SCADA Integration
Full remote SCADA integration enabling operators to monitor substation status, receive alarms, and execute control actions from a central control room — reducing the need for on-site visits and improving response time.
06
Single-Source Turnkey Delivery
Engineering, fabrication, and commissioning delivered under a single contract by the SymCore Group — eliminating handoff risk, ensuring design intent was preserved through to site acceptance testing.
