01
SER & COMTRADE Acquisition
The automation controller continuously polls connected IEDs to acquire Sequence of Event Records and COMTRADE oscillography files the moment a disturbance or fault is detected — capturing the complete sequence of relay operations, analogue waveforms, and event timestamps required for post-fault analysis.
02
Remote SFTP Server
GP Technologies developed and operates a remote SFTP server to receive uploaded event records. Records are automatically transferred over an outbound-only IPsec cellular tunnel, preserving firewall security posture while ensuring event data is available to engineers within minutes of a system fault — wherever they are located.
03
SMS Fault Alerting
On detection of a qualifying event, the system automatically issues SMS alerts to designated engineering and operations personnel — providing immediate notification with event context so that analysis and response can begin before field crews are even dispatched.
04
Cellular Router & IPsec Tunnel
Dedicated cellular routers configured with outbound-only, read-only firewall rules establish an IPsec encrypted tunnel to the remote SFTP server. This architecture satisfies NERC CIP compliance requirements while providing reliable, facility-independent communications that do not depend on plant network availability.
05
Automation Controller Database
A complete SEL-3505 RTAC database was developed in-house — including IED communications configuration, event trigger logic, SFTP upload scripting, SMS notification settings, and satellite clock synchronization — tailored to the specific protection and monitoring architecture of the facility.
06
Commissioning & Verification
End-to-end commissioning verified that an injected fault event correctly triggers the full response chain: event record acquisition, automated SFTP upload to the remote server, and SMS delivery to operations staff — confirming system readiness to support rapid fault response and safe system restoration.
